Foundation Phase department

Our Foundation Phase Department is a happy place where children are encouraged to explore, discover, and share their natural passion for learning about the world around them. The team is led by a dynamic Phase Head and supported by a passionate, experienced, dedicated, and creative group of teachers.

The department includes Grades 1–3, with five classes per grade: two English and three Afrikaans classes, with approximately 30 children in each class. We share a common goal: to take responsibility for each and every individual pupil in our care. We strive to provide children with the intellectual and emotional nourishment that will help them reach their full potential. Our aim is not only to achieve high levels of academic knowledge but also to develop skills, attitudes, values, and accountability that will enable learners to successfully face the challenges of higher grades and life in general. At this level, the emphasis is on laying foundations for learning in a “fun-filled” and integrated manner, while encouraging respect and resilience.

Method of Instruction: Holistic

Our main learning areas are Numeracy, Literacy, and Life Skills. Children also enjoy a variety of specialist subjects such as Gym and Paddock (Grey Pound), run by a qualified Occupational Therapist.

The academic day starts at 07:20 and ends at 12:50.

Our Grade 1–3 learners are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities offered by our educators and private coaches.
